In October 2025, students from Oberstufen-Kolleg in Germany, together with students from Belgium and Spain, came together in Galicia to take part in a reforestation initiative.
Their journey took them to areas deeply affected by devastating forest fires: they explored the landscape, learned about the challenges of forest regeneration and worked alongside local partners to plant trees and create small areas for future research and biodiversity.
However, the experience was about more than forests, it was also an opportunity to meet new people, exchange perspectives, discover different cultures and languages and work together towards a shared goal.
Through this experience, the students discovered that restoring a forest takes time, patience and cooperation. Every tree planted and every new connection made can be a small step towards a more resilient future.
This recently released video captures some of the places, activities and encounters that made the journey a memorable experience for the Oberstufen-Kolleg students: a journey of learning, collaboration and hope for Europe’s forests.
