About

the GATE project

GATE GreenComp Assessment for Transformative Education is a 3 year Erasmus+ Policy Experimentation project involving eight partners from six European countries.

Our mission

is to foster a whole-school approach to sustainability in secondary education by

Creating a self-evaluation framework for schools

Providing targeted training for teachers and decision-makers

Involving students as co-creators of greener school environments

Recognising sustainable schools through a new certification model

Developing policy recommendations based on field-tested solutions

GATE empowers the entire school ecosystem – students, educators, school leaders, and policy actors – to become agents of sustainable change.

The Project

is built around five key pillars

Self-Evaluation Framework

A practical tool that helps schools assess and improve their sustainability practices in teaching, leadership, operations and community engagement.

Capacity-Building Programme

Training resources and workshops that support teachers and policymakers in integrating sustainability into their work.

Pilot Activities

Real-world testing of the framework and training programme in schools across Europe, involving students and staff.

Sustainable School Certification

A model to formally recognise schools that demonstrate commitment to systemic sustainability.

Policy Forum & Recommendations

Events and materials that support educational authorities in adopting evidence-based, future-oriented sustainability policies.

Through these actions, GATE contributes to transforming schools into inclusive and environmentally conscious learning communities that prepare young people to thrive in a green future.
