Sustainability starts with reflection. What do you already know? Which sustainable choices do you make? And where could you take the next step?
The GATE Self-Assessment Tool is an innovative digital tool developed within the GATE project to help secondary school students, teachers and school managers explore their sustainability competences in a simple and practical way. Based on GreenComp, the European Sustainability Competence Framework, it looks at three connected dimensions:
- Knowledge: what you understand.
- Skills: what you are able to do.
- Attitudes: the values and beliefs that guide your choices.
Choose the pathway that best represents your role:
- Students: reflect on your learning, everyday decisions and participation in sustainable actions.
- Teachers: explore how sustainability is integrated into your teaching and professional practice.
- School managers: consider school policies, strategic planning, resource management and community engagement.
Each pathway includes four short questionnaires covering the four GreenComp areas. Through practical examples and 15 questions per area, the tool helps you connect sustainability competences with real situations in school and everyday life.
At the end of each questionnaire, you will receive personalised feedback and practical suggestions. Your result is not a grade or a label. It simply helps you recognise your strengths, understand your current stage of development and identify possible next steps.
The tool is not an exam, and there are no right or wrong answers. Its purpose is to encourage honest reflection, meaningful conversations and positive change across the whole school community.
